In what direction is the design industry going for the new year, you might ask? In my previous newsletter I shared one of my favorite upcoming trends, and now that 2016 is here, I'm ready to spill five of the top design trends to look out for!

Pendants & Pedestals

Twenty sixteen is the year of the statement pendant! Bigger is not always better, so not everything needs to be oversized this year. Don't be afraid to juxtapose the big with the small. Try adding tall pedestal tables at each end of the sofa and tie them in with small pendant lights. Dare to be different!

Sleep Chic

You only get so many hours of sleep each day, don't get tangled up sleeping in a basic bed! You might consider washing those plain white sheets and placing them back in the linen closet for awhile. This year it's all about bed linens with personality, and thanks to Serena and Lily, we have dozens of fun selections to choose from!

Mixed Metals

There's no reason to separate any longer. Platinum, gold, copper, steel- as long as it has a metallic sheen, it works for 2016. Play around using a variety of metallic finishes in different ways- fabrics, sconces, wall coverings and all. Looks like it's going to be a shiny year!

Fabric Walls

Introducing paper-backed wall coverings, an old idea made simple. For a flat fee, you can now choose any fabric to transform into a wall covering. Silks, patterns, herringbone, jewel tones, damasks... have at it!

Return of the Desk

Although here at Kate Designs, it never really left. Choose a sleek writing desk to incorporate into a bedroom, den or sitting area to add a layer of character and functionality.
